Yosemite Mountaineering School & Guide Service
ADA Accessibility Notes
Upon request, mountain guides are trained to provide one on one instructions to special needs visitors wanting to experience climbing in Yosemite.
The Yosemite Mountaineering School and Guide Service has been a tradition in Yosemite rock climbing since 1969. Our guides can take you where you want to go, from learning your first knots, in our beginner Go Climb A Rock classes, to multi-day ascents of El Capitan for the more experienced. As the only guide service permitted to operate within Yosemite National Park, we know Yosemite better than anyone, and love sharing our knowledge and skills with you.
Areas of Service and Expertise
Offered daily April thru October, our Yosemite rock climbing classes are designed to give climbers of all levels new and extended skill sets. Reservations are strongly recommended, and customized classes are also available. Each class builds upon the other - and they are designed to be taken sequentially, so that you can pick the single class you need, design the perfect multi-day seminar or come up every couple of weeks and complete our entire Yosemite climbing training program. Classes meet at either the Mountaineering School in Curry Village or in Tuolumne Meadows.
In addition to rock climbing, the Mountaineering School provides group hikes and custom day hikes as well as overnight backpacking trips. During the winter we move up to the Cross Country Ski Center at Badger Pass, where we offer XC ski lessons, rentals and overnight trips to our beautiful Glacier Point Hut. Rental climbing and camping equipment are also available .
Many of our Yosemite climbing guides are AMGA certified, and have decades of climbing experience in the park. All of our guides also hold Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness EMT certifications. Our hiking and backpacking guides are experienced locals who can share information and insight with you about Yosemite's geology, history, plants and wildlife. Plus, our backpacking instruction covers backpacking equipment from stoves and water filters to tents and clothing.
We love our National Parks and hope that generations to come will still be able to enjoy their majesty and beauty. That is why the Yosemite Mountaineering School believes so strongly in outdoor ethics and the Leave No Trace(SM) philosophy.
