Three Rivers Bed and Breakfast
Nestled at the foot of Sequoia National Park and the head of Lake Kaweah, is probably the best kept secret in California - the magical foothill village of Three Rivers, resident population: 2,600. This quaint village is spread out along three forks of the Kaweah River, which itself originates from high in the neighboring Sierra Nevada Mountains in Sequoia National Park.
Only a few hours drive from Los Angeles or San Francisco, your cell phones and pagers won't work here. The air is crisp and clean with the sound of the ever-present Kaweah River gurgling behind it. Here, you'll experience peace and quiet, where stunning sunsets and star-filled nights replace street lights.
At Three Rivers Bed and Breakfast, you are only 8 miles from the main entrance to Sequoia National Park, home of the General Sherman Tree and other examples of the largest living things on earth. This is "Kaweah Country" as gorgeous as it is wild.
We designed our river house so that each guest bedroom would overlook the Middle Fork of the River, then gave the project to a Three Rivers contractor who grew up on the South Fork. With a love of oak trees and a deep understanding of rivers, river rock, and sand, he built a beautiful home bed and breakfast for us on a plateau overlooking the River and managed to save all of the huge granite rocks and most of the oak trees which were on our property when we purchased it.
Before obtaining his contractor's license, our builder was a cabinet maker. Thus the beautiful oak cabinets you see throughout the river house were designed and built by him.
Our breakfast menu focuses on our own homegrown fruit in addition to local fruit grown no farther than 50 miles away in California's Central Valley. All of this fruit is either grown organically or in a sustainable fashion. At Three Rivers Bed and Breakfast, we do our best to make everything from scratch. Guest favorites include our homemade cobblers made with local fruit, such as cherry cobblers, spiced apple cobblers, strawberry cobblers, and the Three Rivers wild blackberry cobbler. Many guests also enjoy our quiche, made with organic eggs from locally raised cage-free chickens. Each breakfast comes with a plate of seasonal fresh fruit. Fresh-squeezed orange juice made from locally grown, sustainable or organic oranges is always available.

Music Welcome Here
At the river house, you are welcome to play the old upright piano, acoustic guitar, small organ, and small electronic keyboard. You are also welcome to play your own CDs. If you didn't think to bring your own, we are happy to play ours for you. We have quite an eclectic collection, including CDs by local musicians the High Sierra Jazz Band and Faena Brava, and CDs by family musicians like The Fast Sails, concert pianist Domonique Launey, and others.
Local Artists Supported Here
We like a clean spare look, that focuses on the beautiful outdoors. However, Three Rivers has many amazing artists and we have recently added touches of some of their beautiful creations here and there. Pencil drawings by Jana Botkin of Cabinart grace the foyer, decorative art by Wendy McKellar of Colors Art Gallery winds up the fireplace chimneys in the guest bedrooms, watercolor fruit and vegetables by Nadi Spencer have been purchased and are waiting to be hung in the kitchen, and bits of what we lovingly call "dot art" by Shirley Keller can be found in the garden, along the veranda, or gracing the courtyard walls. A framed collage of the big trees hangs in the large common room and a framed collage of river wildflowers decorates each guest bedroom. Both were created by photographer Jeri Burzin.
We use only hand-woven kitchen towels, lovingly made by local weaver Nikki Crain and every candle larger than a tea light is made of soy and hand-poured by Nikki, as well.
Local Health Care Products Offered Here
In addition to the normal products offered by the average hotel or bed and breakfast facility, we also offer natural health care products made by local Janene Lasswell of Ja Nene Natural Body Products.
At Three Rivers Bed and Breakfast we accept your recyclables to recycle with our own. We have our own well and treat our water on-site. Energy efficient lighting, double-paned windows, high ceilings, ceiling fans, extra insulation, and extra efficient wood-burning fireplaces with a ceramic insert, negate the need to use a lot of electricity, air-conditioning, or heat. Any candle larger than a tea light is made of soy. For your enjoyment, our property embraces and displays the 4 types of plant communities naturally growing here: oak and grassland on top, a cold "sink" naturally occurring at the bottom of a small hill up top, sycamore alluvial woodland below, and riparian woodland at the river's edge.
Locally or Family Owned Business Notes
Three Rivers Bed and Breakfast is owned and operated by Leah Catherine Launey and Peter Sodhy, a husband and wife team. We regularly visited Three Rivers beginning in 1980 and made a permanent move in 2006 after purchasing property in 1999 to build our home bed and breakfast in 2002.
Pet Friendly Notes
We accept small pets. We still miss our dog Puck who led us where he wanted to go for 17 years, including finding our spot on the river.
