The Art Center, Alturas
ADA Accessibility Notes
Our facility accommodates all ADA applicants starting with our ground floor, no-step entry to an open space atmosphere where viewing and studying are ergonomically designed for all.
Located in Alturas, The Art Center, a nonprofit corporation, is committed to the advancement of the arts through education, community involvement and an active hands-on approach to the understanding and appreciation of the arts. Over the past 35 years, our volunteer staff and national membership base have proven that passion for the arts and sciences pays dividends when that passion is selflessly given to the youth of the world.
Our art and science programs include painting and drawing classes taught by local artist Moira Donohoe, and pottery classes with Richard Mackey of Canyon Creek Pottery who uses natural clay and glazes from Modoc County through Lassen Community College, 4-H and after school children's art studies, weekly Literary and Performing Arts Open Mike, Modoc Astronomical Society, Native American Indian Art & Craft Appreciation Classes, Modoc Cinema Review Society, and the Modoc Photographic Society.
Artists from the area who are involved at The Art Center include Elsie Vogt, Carol Stocker, Josh Mefford, Sandy Higa, Debbie Anderson and Jean Bilodeaux, as well as several talent photographers including Duane McGarva, Lorissa Soriano, Kim Sigler, Carol Robbins, Laura VanAcker, Dan Dockery and many more.
Our Main Gallery features a monthly exhibit of artists and artisans from the Pacific Northwest where the diversity of culture are illustrated in the artists' medium. From potters to photographers, painters to crafters, The Art Center proudly presents that uniqueness in a style above the rest.
