Pine Creek Mine

Ore bin at Pine Creek Tungsten Mine – http://www.rockcreeklake.com

The Pine Creek Mine is an operating mine and closed to the public. However Pine Creek Road, running from Highway 395 outside of Bishop up to the Pine Creek Pack Station at the end of the road is open year round.

The Pine Creek Mine is the only existing Tungsten Mine in the United States. It sits in the Pine Creek Canyon off of Iconic Highway 395 in Bishop, surrounded by numerous mountain peaks and trails to the high country.

The Pine Creek Mine is also home to the endangered Big Horned Sheep which call the shale mountain side and steep peaks home in the late winter and early spring. It is also home to large numbers of deer herds which feed on the reclaimed tailing dams which the Pine Creek Mine seeds for constant wildlife vegetation.

There are several campgrounds along Pine Creek Road leading up to the Pine Creek Pack Station and Trailhead parking area. Plus along the road are also numerous turnoffs which lead to awesome climbing.

Also available in the winter are great sledding hills, backcountry skiing and ice climbing. This is a can't miss stop on your tour of the Bishop area.
