One of Carson Valley’s favorite holiday traditions is the annual Parade of Lights. Local businesses and organizations decorate their floats with lights of all types and colors, and parade down Highway 395 from Heritage Park in Gardnerville to historic Minden Park.
Started in 1996, the Parade of Lights is truly a hometown event, marked with parade floats as simple as strings of lights hanging from a Harley motorcycle to elaborate displays with light patterns choreographed to music.
Along the way viewers scramble for candy and treats dispensed by the parade participants, and enjoy hot beverages and barbecue dinners prepared by local chefs. The annual event concludes at Minden Park with the announcement of parade winners and to enjoy Minden's Weinhnachts Festival, another historic tradition shared by locals and visitors side by side.
