Locally or Family Owned Business Notes

The Mourelatos family bought the property in 1978 and have run the resort since. The Mourelatos family is of Greek decent and they have added Mediterranean hospitality to the accommodations and natural setting. The result is typically a relaxing experience that results in cherished memories of Lake Tahoe. A favorite location for family reunions and annual trips, the resort plays host to a very big percentage of return guests and its beach location and rooms setting make the resort a popular location for weddings.

Built originally in 1942 under the name James Lakeshore Resort, the original resort of cabins still exists on the north side of Highway 28. It has long been a destination for North Tahoe visitors seeking beach access. The road side cabin served as a highway weigh station in the 40's and 50's and has served as the resort's ice cream shop for almost 30 years. The lake front property has been a draw as one of the best beach front lodging and lake recreation options in the region for more than 50 years. The original buildings on this side were constructed preceding the 1960 Winter Olympics and hosted distinguished guests during that season.

Renamed Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort in 1978, the family-owned Resort is nestled on the magnificent pristine beach of Lake Tahoe’s north shore. This intimate fully-remodeled all suite-motel sits on the edge of a 275 foot private beach and could not be more optimal and central for those who seek a location to enjoy all that Lake Tahoe has to offer. Best of all, you will be hosted and spoiled throughout your stay with the owner’s personal and authentic Greek hospitality that brings guests back year after year.
