Earn breathtaking views of several Yosemite landmarks on this moderately challenging hike. The Mist Trail has fabulous scenery from start to finish, beginning at the bridge overlook, ascending to two unforgettable waterfalls that cascade a combined total of more than 900 feet (270 meters), and ending with perhaps the most striking of all: the view of Nevada Fall, Liberty Cap, and the back of Half Dome from the Muir Trail.
For the most dramatic scenery, visit in the springtime, when melting snowpack makes the falls beautifully powerful. You can feel the spray as you get close to Vernal and Nevada Falls, and capture some incredible photos of the iconic Yosemite Valley when you reach the top.
To get there, take the Valley Shuttle to the trailhead near the Nature Center at Happy Isles (Shuttle Stop #16), and hike 3 miles (4.8 km) round trip to Vernal Fall, or 7 miles (11 km) round trip to Nevada Fall. Total hiking time is 2-5 hours, depending on how far you venture. Bathrooms are available at Curry Village, across the bridge from the first overlook, and at the top of both Vernal and Nevada Falls.
Leave the car behind and take advantage of the free Valley Shuttle to take you to the trailhead. From the Visitor Center, take the shuttle to stop #16 where the trailhead begins near the Nature Center at Happy Isles.
