Every July 4th the town blasts off the holiday with an early morning 5k/10k Walk/Run followed by a fabulous pancake breakfast at the Dehy Park. Then digest and watch this small town parade that will warm your heart with the quaintness and the wonderful creativity that's known throughout America -especially charming small towns like Independence!

An Arts and Crafts show at the Courthouse lawn fills the morning hours. After the excitement calms but for an hour it is more small town fun - with added attractions each year. At 1 p.m. there are kids games at the park followed by the ice cream and homemade pies event, which leads to the BBQ put on by the local fire department and community. Fireworks go off at sunset. Oh, and often there is a dance the night before at the park!

Reunions of many families and school buddies brings this small town to double in size quickly for the festivities of the 4th.
