Heidi Vetter: Photographer and Wilderness Guide
California photographer Heidi Vetter is a business woman, poet, and artist, dedicated to her work and to her craft. The planning, technical expertise, and passion poured into the images she creates is truly inspirational. For as long as she can remember, photography has been a pivotal force in her life, leading her into marriage, children, and owning her own business.
For Heidi, photography is a bridge between insanity and balance, a reflection of herself, defining who she is and what she wants to say. Vetter has photographed extensively in California and the American Southwest, including the ghost town of Bodie, Mono Lake, Monument Valley, Yosemite National Park, and the Wilderness of California’s High Sierra.
In 2002, this drive to photograph, to take chances and to seek meaning in her life, resulted in a solo journey into the rugged Sierra Nevada Mountains. For three months, Vetter photographed the wildness of Central California’s High Country using a 4x5 large format camera. The body of work that grew from this journey is emotive and inspirational, and a testament to one woman's confrontation with nature and her existence.
Heidi Vetter has roamed the Sierra Nevada for more than 20 years. Vetter is a skilled landscape photographer, ski instructor, back country guide, and poet. Her love for the Sierra Nevada is as much a part of her being as her body and her soul.
With more than 15 years experience as a business owner and commercial photo printer, she is well versed in traditional and contemporary photographic techniques. Her experience traveling in the High Sierra makes her a valuable resource for hikers, backpackers, and photographers.
