Hawley Grade trail runs from the Upper Truckee River in Christmas Valley to Hwy 50 (at Echo Summit). It takes approximately 3 hours with a total elevation distance of 920ft.
The trail was originally part of the Pony Express Trail, and the original "pass trail" over Echo Summit. It is a location of one Snowshoe Thompson's heroic stories where Snowshoe saved someone's life in a nearby cabin.
This is a multi-use trail shared by hikers, bikers and equestrians, that has great views of Lake Tahoe and Lake Valley.
Pack In - Pack Out.
Dogs should be on a leash. Trail terminates on Highway 50 Echo Summit so be careful around traffic. Horses are also allowed.
