Gold Country Museum
ADA Accessibility Notes
This museum is ADA accessible.
The Gold Country Museum in Auburn interprets Placer County’s Gold Rush history. Visitors are treated to a stroll through a replica hard rock mining tunnel, which leads to the assayer’s office. Exhibits of a miner’s cabin and a mining camp saloon where a game of Faro is underway provide a glimpse into the lives of miners. Other exhibits highlight the various gold mining methods and the three main routes people took to get to California.
The Museum was in a historic Works Progress Administration (WPA) building located inside the Gold Country Fairgrounds, and is now gearing up to move to a new location in downtown Auburn at 601 Lincoln Way in the old Auburn Depot Building. The new location will still have an indoor panning stream, as well as new exhibits that include an operating stamp mill and a mining tunnel.
The Gold Country Museum is currently closed during their move, however it is expected to partially open in the winter and will have a grand opening in the spring.
