The Farms and Forests Heritage Corridor follows Highway 20 across Northern California’s ecological and agricultural regions.

Visitors traveling along this route can visit historic towns, farms, public lands, and forests as they explore Northern California's diverse natural landscapes. Scenic Highway 20 in the Tahoe/Emigrant Corridor spans from the historic mining town of Grass Valley to Emigrant Gap near Highway 80, along 80 through the Donner Pass, to Truckee, and then south on Highway 89 along Lake Tahoe's western shore to the city of South Lake Tahoe.

Take Highway 20 east from Grass Valley to Highway 80, and then along Interstate 80 to Truckee, then south on Highway 89 to South Lake Tahoe.

What is a Heritage Corridor? A heritage corridor consists of roads, state and other parks, greenways, or parallel recreational trails of historical, natural, or conservation education significance. Visitors traveling along a heritage corridor will find guides, signs, and other features to assist with self-guided tours of these unique and beautiful areas. Visitors will also find information about environmental conservation along the corridor. The California Legislature designated this heritage corridor in 1979.

The Gold-Rush era towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley, Empire Mine and Donner Memorial State Parks, the historic town of Truckee, into Lake Tahoe. Along the route you'll learn about logging railroads, ski history, farms, wineries, timeless towns, local pioneers, and mining history.
