The oldest grave-sites in the Divide Cemetery date back to the Gold Rush. To date, there have been more than 1,000 burials there. Located on the "Divide" between Big Oak Flat and Groveland, the cemetery has gone by many names throughout history, including St. John's Cemetery (after the original owner of the property), the Protestant Cemetery, the Oddfellows (IOOF) Cemetery and Oak-Grove Cemetery. Today it is a peaceful place, shielded by stately oaks and one impressive buckeye. The gates are always open during daylight hours, so come take a stroll along meandering pathways surrounded by those who pioneered the region, including countless gold miners, farmers, ranchers, store keepers, and even a few politicians.
