Located 17 miles of wild river between Salt Springs Reservoir and Tiger Creek Powerhouse, south of Highway 88. Deep, scenic forested river canyon, huge boulders, giant granite domes. Eligible for designation as a National Wild and Scenic River.

Recreational Opportunities

Class V whitewater kayaking and rafting -- for experts only. Camping in three U.S. Forest Service campgrounds near Salt Springs Reservoir. Hiking, birding, wildflowers, trout fishing, swimming. Rock climbing on nearby Calaveras Dome and Hammer Dome.

Year-round access from Tiger Creek Road in Pioneer. Late spring through fall access from Ellis Road and Panther Creek Roads off Highway 88. Ellis and Panther Creek close due to snow in winter.
