Coppervale Ski Area

Snow Sports Area
Lassen Community College

Lassen College’s Coppervale Ski area is only 18 miles from Susanville along Highway 36. Coppervale features 8 trails, a terrain park, a half-pipe, and over 700 feet of vertical drop. Coppervale has plenty to offer for the downhill, cross country, or snowboarder. There is something for everyone in the family including trails for various ski levels, a face, forest runs, a bowl, and a newly created terrain park. For those new to the sport, the slopes are groomed to accommodate less advanced skiers and snowboarders.

Coppervale Ski area was established in the 1930’s by the citizens of Westwood and Susanville. The original lift featured a rope tow run off the rear wheels of a car chained on the top of the mountain. Whoever was the early riser was responsible for hiking up the mountain with gas and starting the engine.

It wasn’t until the 1960’s that Lassen Community College took over the Ski Area and started the first official ski classes. The rope tow engine was then moved to the bottom of the hill and refitted with a new engine and modifications. In 1977 the Poma lift was installed providing service to the summit and allowing skiers to have access to nearly 740 feet of vertical drop.

Coppervale Ski Area currently hosts classes on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays from 9:30am-4:30pm. The lift is in operation from 1-4:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information or questions call the Snow Phone at (530)257-9965 or visit
