Locally or Family Owned Business Notes
Owned and operated by the Raco Family for two generations.
"We all have our dreams for the future and my husband Joe & I had decided our was having a log home up in the mountains outside of Foresthill California Here we could retire and enjoy having plenty of space for our family of 5 adult children. We located twenty acres on the Foresthill Divide surrounded by the historic Sierra Nevada Mother Lode Gold Country. We cleared the land by hand as the property had many marketable Christmas Trees that we gave to the Boy Scouts to harvest for their tree lot sales in Foresthill proper. When we were able to start grading the land for house site, each of our children had made a decision as to their dreams and only our Minnesota family decided to become partners in this project. Placer County told us that a private home could not be built on the property as the zoning was “Forestry”. We were informed that a “rural recreation facility “ was approved for the land. After much research, we created the rural recreation facility on the ground floor and the required year round caretaker accommodations on the upper level.
In 1999 we finally got the building permit and broke grown for the foundation. Finally in November 2002 opened our nearly 8000 sf bed and breakfast and our first guests have returned many times to enjoy our winter snow play area at location of 5100 foot elevation in Tahoe National Forest, just 1/2 mile away from the China Wall Trails Staging Area.
The family volunteered many hours to complete the many aspects of construction. Each family member enjoys “coming home” to the lodge. With our son and daughter in law here, we are working partners in this operation and our reputation has grown as this is the ideal place year round to enjoy the great outdoors."
