Christmas Delights, Main Street Jackson
Ages Festival is Appropriate For
Christmas Delights is a Jackson Main Street tradition. It can arguably be considered public-petitioned in nature. How many of our local young adults claim years of cheerful memories leading back to Christmas Delights? Many, it's true.
Held the weekend after Thanksgiving, this event evokes anticipation and joy in watching Santa Claus motoring down Main Street in a vintage fire truck for the lighting of the Christmas Tree; mirth and delight by all when strolling up and down a star-lit street filled with carolers, sprinkled with elves, and peopled with Victorian- and Edwardian-clad characters; and wonder and amazement when entering gift-filled storefronts and being met by holiday cookies and plenty of cheer.
Old West actors -- Wild West Law Dawgs, Outlaws and Ladies -- recreate a Christmas Gold Rush feel as they meet and greet and pose for photos. Pyrenees rescue dogs are also available for photos, and so is Santa Claus and his elves after the Christmas tree is lit.
And Mrs. Santa Claus holds kids, young and old, spellbound while she reads Christmas stories and gives out cookies: ‘Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house . . .
