Cedar Pass Snow Park
. It is approximately seventeen miles east of Alturas and ten miles west of Cedarville. This small but charming and beautiful snow park is a hidden gem perfectly positioned in the Warner Mountains in Modoc County. The stunning and scenic panorama enriches the ski experience. The small town ambiance and sense of community pride provide a perfect setting for the whole family to enjoy.
Cedar Pass Snow Park is community owned, staffed and run entirely by volunteers. This community based project continually inspires individuals Cedar Pass Snow Park is located in the northeastern corner of California within the Modoc National Forestto keep it running. The Cedar Pass Ski Hill provides many amenities such as ski and snowboard rentals, concessions, and lessons.
Lessons are offered throughout the day when the ski hill is open. For the first time skier, equipment and lessons are provided free of charge. Instructors are certified and competent, providing a wonderful and fun experience to those who are just learning to ski. Over the years hundreds of children have learned how to ski here.
The ski patrollers are skilled, diligent and always prepared to ensure the safety of all who visit the facilities.
If you want to volunteer on the hill you can earn a free pass to ski. Rental equipment is donated by other local ski areas and shops who upgrade their own equipment. Qualified volunteers, who work on the rental equipment, ensure that all of the gear is in safe and proper working order.
Cedar Pass Snow Park provides a wide variety of winter sport activities including snowboarding, cross country, downhill, Nordic and Telemark skiing. Other winter activities include snowmobiling, snowshoeing, sledding and ice skating. Generally, these activities are more prevalent during heavier snow seasons.
The variety of slopes, steep runs, and snow conditions that can vary from powder to ice give both the experienced and beginner skier an opportunity to explore at their own skill levels.
The lower level slopes are beginner friendly, however the higher levels offer the more seasoned and experienced athlete a greater challenge. As a matter of fact, Cedar Pass has prepared local skiers to be competitive away from Modoc. Many of those who skied here have gone on to college and participated on school or junior Olympic teams. Today, Cedar Pass is still producing young adult skiers with great skills…..currently the president of Stanford University ski team is one of Modoc’s own.
Unlike other large ski resorts, Cedar Pass Snow Park doesn’t have long lines and ski rentals are incredibly reasonable and affordable. The trails are very well groomed and maintained. There are a total of six runs and a powder bowl that is unique, fun and should be visited at least once. The ski lift is a T-Bar style and there is a rope tow lift for beginners.
After a long day of skiing, the Warming Hut has a concession stand where you can purchase snacks or bring something to cook on the grill. There is a barbecue grill on site for folks to use.
The Snow Park is open weekends and holidays during the winter months. Hours of operation are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

From the Junction of Hwy 395 and Hwy 299 in Alturas, go north on Hwy 299 towards Cedarville approximately 17 miles. Look for the Cedar Pass Ski Hill sign on the right side of the highway, turn right and go down the hill and you'll end up at the Snow Park parking lot.
Best Access and Parking Area
Access to the Snow Park is off Hwy. 299 on Cedar Pass. There is a parking area at the foot of the hill.
Approximate Operating Season
During the winter when there is a sufficient snowpack the ski hill is open eekends and Hohlidays.
