Big Meadows Guard Station
Step back in time and experience what it was like to live in a Forest Guard Station back in the 1930s. The Big Meadows Guard Station, located in the Sequoia National Forest/Giant Sequoia National Monumnet, was constructed between 1933 and 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) to provide a residence for Forest Service fire patrolmen stationed in that area. In 1964, the Forest Service no longer needed the use of the cabin full time and used it intermittently as a guard station up until the late 1980s.
The cabin was restored in 2001 and is available for overnight guests to the southern Sierra Nevada. The cabin features historical photos and items that would have been found in a Forest Guard Station during the 1930s.
The cabin is 900 square feet, single story and consists of 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen with a service porch. The original cabinets, living room and bedroom flooring and bath fixtures remain. The cabin is available for overnight rental up to a 14 day stay between June 15 to October 15; depending on weather.
