1859 Historic National Hotel, Jamestown
One of the ten oldest continuously operated hotels in California, the 1859 Historic National Hotel in Jamestown, California was established during the Gold Rush. Nine elegantly restored rooms, a historic original bar in the saloon and a three star restaurant, the National Hotel is a journey into the past. On the walls of the saloon and restaurant are old pictures of the hotel and area that capture the interest of the guests that enter to dine and spend a night or two. The resident ghost called Flo, has graced the hotel for much of it's existence and the writings of guest's experiences with her can be found in the journals kept in each guest room. Located just an hour from the Big Oak Flat entrance to Yosemite National Park brings travelers from all over the world through its doors.
ADA Accessibility Notes
Stephen Willey, the proprietor, has owned the National Hotel and Restaurant for 35 years. He has lived full time on the property since purchasing the property in 1974 and has done much of the restoration himself.
Bed and Breakfast Style
The hotel, with all nine rooms located on the second floor, has an old style balcony overlooking the street below that guests may use to relax and enjoy a cocktail on a warm summer afternoon or bring their breakfast up from the dining room and enjoy the morning air. Also available and very popular with hotel guests is the soaking room with an old-fashioned claw foot bathtub for two, bath salts and relaxing music.
This is a historical property that has been restored to keep the original style of the gold rush era, while bathrooms (with pull chain toilets) have been added to each guest room. And of course while the dining room and saloon project the charm of a bygone era, the kitchen is modern and fully equipped.
Eco-Friendly Notes
Besides using environmentally sound cleaning supplies whenever possible, all paper, glass, and cans are recycled. Even leftover food is scraped into a bucket which is fed to an employee's pig. All amenities (shampoo, soaps etc) are from 'green' suppliers. Even the soils, fertilizers and pest control products are organic and eco-friendly.
Pet Friendly Notes
The National Hotel and Restaurant has always been a pet friendly establishment, even allowing pets to accompany their owners when dining on the Virginia Creeper covered patio.
